Premier Storage’s Sustainability Journey: Renewable Energy, Electric Vehicles & ISO 14001
At Premier Storage, we’re proud to share the sustainability initiatives currently underway across our business. Sustainability isn’t just a one-day conversation; it’s an ongoing commitment to how we operate, invest and plan for the future. Over the past year, we’ve taken significant steps to reduce our environmental impact, improve our energy efficiency and work towards achieving recognised environmental standards.
From renewable energy via our new solar panels to transitioning to all-electric company cars, these initiatives form part of a wider sustainability strategy that supports our employees, our community and the planet.
Investing in Renewable Energy at Our Doncaster Headquarters
The most significant step so far in our sustainability pledge has been the installation of solar panels at our Thorne offices.
The project was completed by HS Harbon Limited, with a strong focus on supporting the local economy by using skilled local tradespeople.
This renewable energy installation will allow us to generate a substantial proportion of our electricity on site, reducing both our environmental impact and our long-term operational costs.
Key Impacts
- CO₂ emissions avoided: 4,887 kg per year
- Estimated annual carbon reduction: 1.90 tonnes
- Lifetime carbon saving: 45.48 tonnes
- Energy self-sufficiency level: 53.2%
By generating our own electricity on site, Premier Storage is significantly reducing reliance on grid energy and lowering our overall carbon footprint.
Improving Building Efficiency & Comfort
In addition to our solar panel installation, Premier Storage has also completely removed the previous wet heating system, meaning our building is now completely gas-free. This transition represents an important milestone in reducing fossil fuel reliance and improving the environmental performance of our workplace.
As part of the wider building upgrade, we have also installed a modern air conditioning system designed to improve workplace wellbeing and energy efficiency. Maintaining a constant, comfortable temperature in our building has created a much healthier working environment for our team. The Premier Storage team now benefit from better indoor air quality and more stable working temperatures throughout the year.

Premier Storage would like to say a huge thank you to Tim Steel from SYMCA for supporting us to secure part-funding for our solar panel initiative and aiding us to move forward with our ISO 14001 application. Support from local authorities like this plays a crucial role in helping businesses like us move forward and invest in more sustainable infrastructure.
Transitioning to Fully Electric Company Cars
In November 2025, we took another major step towards sustainability by transitioning to fully electric company cars. Moving to an all-electric fleet means Premier Storage can reduce our environmental impact by producing zero tailpipe emissions, improving air quality, lowering our lifetime carbon footprint and producing less noise pollution within our community.
Working Towards ISO 14001
In addition to our new eco-friendly building improvements and all-electric company cars, Premier Storage is also proud to announce we are currently working towards ISO 14001:2015 certification.
Our key sustainability objectives include:
- Using renewable energy to meet 60% of business energy needs within two years
- Achieve a 15% reduction in energy usage by the end of 2026
- Reduce our overall carbon footprint within 12 months
- Reduce waste sent to landfill by 25% over five years
- Increase reuse and recycling of materials by 10% annually
- Implement best-practice water management
- Commit to sourcing 50% of products from demonstrably sustainable and ethical suppliers by 2030
Our On-going Commitment
Whilst we have made long-term improvements within Premier Storage to operate sustainably and ethically, our sustainability journey is still ongoing. From renewable energy and electric vehicles to responsible sourcing and waste management, we are committed to making ongoing improvements to support our long-term environmental responsibility. These initiatives will continue to evolve as we do.
