Plans to start on Doncaster logistics park

Infrastructure work is to begin this summer on a 5.8m sq ft rail-connected logistics park at Doncaster.

Doncaster council are due to let the contract for improvements to the town’s ring road which will help open up the Rossington Inland Port site.

The £400m plan is being promoted by Helios Europe, SEGRO and Yorkshire-based Shepherd Developments. The site is close to junction 3 of the M18 motorway.

Talks are understood to be underway with potential occupiers. If pre-lets are agreed work on a first phase of up to 1m sq ft could begin later this year for completion by late 2013.

Andrew Gent, partner at specialist logistics property consultancy Gent Visick, and a letting agent on the scheme, said: “The council are completing the tendering for the road, and we are in discussion with a number of occupiers with a view to the first units being potentially available in late 2013.”

“As the large retailers begin to get to grips with their carbon reduction targets so sites like Rossington will become more relevant to them.”

Talks with rail operators are also in progress.

Joint letting agents with Gent Visick are CBRE and BNP Paribas Real Estate.

Last week it emerged that German-owned rail freight operator DB Schenker Rail has been chosen to work on the controversial plans for a 3.5 m sq ft  green belt logistics depot at Radlett, Hertfordshire. The scheme is promoted by Helioslough.
